In the fall 2023 issue of Environments for Aging, žžƵ's Kelley Hoffman, NCIDQ shares how interior design impacts the needs and desires of today's seniors.

Senior living communities are continually challenged to meet the evolving needs and preferences of a growing sophisticated, elderly demographic. Eastcastle Place, located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has a long-standing history of providing quality services to residents and the community.

Recently, Eastcastle Place worked with , and žžƵ to develop a strategic, future-forward master planning effort to support the desired growth. The design team identified goals and objectives such as adding independent living units, wellness offerings, intellectual programming and elevating the dining program.

A key component of the plan involved updating finishes and amenities to support an active, wellness-focused lifestyle. žžƵ’s interior design creates an aesthetic that feels modern and also honors the campus’ 139-year history.

“Every design detail was carefully considered to be warm and inviting and evoke what we refer to for the project as ‘Today’s Traditional,’” said žžƵ Interior Designer and Senior Partner Kelley Hoffman, NCIDQ

Hoffman notes the style for the project, “Today’s Traditional,” can be seen through the use of rust and coral tones, which lend warmth to a neutral color palette that utilizes bronzed and brass metal tones. Furniture selections for the space lean traditional, but feature updated and cleaner lines, such as the lobby’s wingback chairs, while classic fabric patterns like tweeds, herringbones and rich leather round out the refined palette.
